NAMI West Side – New Location

By Marilyn Salzman

NAMI-Westside will become a new tenant in the UNM-West Health Sciences Building in Rio Rancho by the end of March! This is being made possible through the passage of a Sandoval County hospital bond mill levy dedicated to supporting mental health services. Dr. Christopher Morris will be heading up this endeavor that proposes a walk-in facility for mental health-related needs. Mental health professionals will see patients at the UNM-West building and NAMI-Westside will be a resource literally “down the hall.” UNM will provide space for our administrative needs and Sandoval Regional Medical Center (a stone’s throw away) will offer their large conference room for meetings and classes in the evening. We are thrilled for this opportunity to have the support and recognition for the work that NAMI-Westside has provided in Rio Rancho/Sandoval County over the past dozen plus years. When we have a ribbon-cutting we hope you’ll come celebrate this milestone with us.

Hewlett-Packard has a large presence in Rio Rancho. Because NAMI-Westside belongs to the Rio Rancho Regional Chamber of Commerce as a part of their non-profit alliance, they have invited us to participate in their Share the Love Campaign Charity Fair on February 14th at their Rio Rancho site. This is a fun and exciting way to bring local charities to the employees of H-P. The event is designed to remind employees of the H-P Dollar For Dollar Match ($2,500 per employee if set up through HP Giving site) and allows their employees to meet local charities in person (and hopefully donate). H-P has a 100% corporate match, so if NAMI-Westside puts on a good show and presents all the wonderful programs we offer we stand to receive some donations. We are setting up lots of Valentine’s Hearts, decorations and giveaways. Final details will follow in the next edition of the Challenger.

You can find the schedules of our meetings at our website www.namirioranchonm.org.
