Family & Friends in Farmington

Cy Stanton

Dateline Farmington NM: 23 March, 11AM-3PM

Two NAMI Albuquerque Family-to-Family teachers, Heather Cummings and Cy Stanton, recently took the NAMI Family and Friends program on the road to Farmington, New Mexico. NAMI Family & Friends is a 4-hour seminar that informs and supports people who have loved ones with a mental health condition.

This Seminar was co-sponsored by Presbyterian Medical Services New Mexico (PMSNM) and conducted at the Farmington Community Health Center. Many thanks go to PMSNM’s Catherine Burton in Farmington for her help in spreading the word about the seminar. The 16 participants in attendance learn about diagnosis, treatment, recovery, communication strategies, crisis preparation and NAMI resources. The seminar was met with great enthusiasm!

The seminar also gave participants an opportunity to meet other people in similar situations and gain community support. The seminar leaders, Heather and Cy, left Albuquerque at around 6:30AM for the long drive to Farmington in order to get set up and start the seminar on time at 11PM.
